Falling in the ice cold water at St. Mary’s Glacier- Colorado

It was not until this year that we had heard about the St. Mary’s Glacier hike near Idaho Springs, CO. Two different sets of friends had just posted about their hike and we were just amazed by the photos. So, we decided that the next time we were near Idaho Springs we would do the hike. It is fairly close to I-70 and a short hike, 1.4 miles.  In July of this year, we were headed over to a family reunion in Fort Collins, and this was the perfect time to check out the only glacier in Colorado. The hike did not disappoint, it was relatively short and not too difficult. There is a good incline that definitely has you breathing heavier.  Once you climb up to the top, you come across the lake at the bottom of the Glacier and it is so serene. The lake captures the surrounding landscape in its reflection like a mirror. Next, we hiked to the glacier, so the kids could play in the snow in the middle of July. One can’t play in the snow without making snow angels.  Afterward, Brayden and Taylor were determined to get into the ice-cold lake to make it to a rock about 30 feet from the shore. That water was cold, but the kid’s adventurous spirit wouldn’t keep them away.

If you are ever in the area of Denver make sure you stop here and try this hike out. You won’t be disappointed.
